Abstract
It is with great excitement, but also trepidation, I embark on my role as Editor of the Journal of the International Academy of Periodontology. The Journal was
established 19 years ago and has been under the careful stewardship of Dr Mark Patters, inaugural Editor. Mark (ably assisted by Andrea Patters, Associate Editor) has worked tirelessly to ensure the Journal presents a
high-quality product of relevance to the international periodontal community. This has not been an easy task but Mark has always maintained a strong commitment
to the mission of the IAP to improve knowledge and disseminate information about periodontics worldwide to those who have an interest in the prevention and
treatment of diseases of the periodontium.
